A resistor is a two-terminal electrical component that introduces resistance in a circuit. It reduces the flow of current and lowers voltage levels. In most circuits, multiple resistors are used to control the current. The two primary configurations for resistors in a circuit are series and parallel. Basic components like conductors (wires), a power source, resistors, a switch, and loads make up the basic structure of a circuit.

A circuit typically has a starting and stopping point, and copper wire is commonly used as the conductor due to its good conductivity. A switch controls whether a circuit is open or closed, thus controlling the flow of current. Resistors are used to regulate the flow of electric current, serving as passive components that consume but do not generate power. A load, such as a light bulb or fan, consumes electrical energy and transforms it into light, heat, or mechanical energy.

Note: Components in an electric circuit can be connected in either series or parallel to form different resistive networks. Resistors are often combined in both series and parallel configurations within the same circuit to create more complex resistive networks. Such circuits are known as mixed resistor circuits.
