Chapter 3 – The S Block Elements
Chapter 10 – The s-Block Elements covers elements of Group 1 (Alkali metals) and Group 2 (Alkaline earth metals) of the periodic table. These elements have their valence electron in the s-orbital, which gives them characteristic properties like high reactivity, low ionization energy, and strong electropositive nature.
The chapter explains their electronic configuration, physical and chemical properties, trends in atomic size and ionization energy, and important compounds such as sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, calcium oxide, and plaster of Paris. It also discusses anomalous properties of lithium and diagonal relationship. This chapter is very important for CBSE board exams as well as NEET and JEE preparation.
